Regularly scheduled cleanings allow our dentists to closely monitor your child’s developing teeth, spot and treat any potential problems early on, ensure that their smile remains healthy and strong for years to come, and so much more!

What’s involved with a cleaning & checkup appointment?

After welcoming your child and putting them at ease, we’ll use specialized instruments to carefully examine their mouth. Next, we’ll clean your child’s teeth, removing any plaque and bacteria, and we’ll likely recommend that a fluoride treatment be performed, which will help strengthen and protect your child’s smile.

We may also suggest that X-rays be taken for a clearer picture of your child’s oral health condition should we have concerns, and we may recommend placing sealants on your child’s molars and premolars to seal in tooth grooves and/or pits that can be prone to decay. In addition, we’ll check for “occlusion,” which is how the top and bottom teeth fit together, and if we see that an issue is present or developing, we may recommend minor orthodontic treatment to ensure that their permanent teeth are able to come in without issue.

Finally, we’ll also provide you and your child with nutritional recommendations and oral health education to help keep their teeth healthy and strong.

How often should these appointments take place?

It is recommended that, like adults, children have their teeth cleaned and examined every six months. Doing so will not only help protect their oral well-being early on, but regular care can also help your child maintain healthy dental habits for life.
